General Medical Council news update

Important changes will come into effect when the Medical Practitioners Tribunal Service takes over the management of fitness to practise hearings. His Honour judge David Pearl has been appointed chair of the MPTS and will be responsible for the appointment, training, appraising and mentoring of panel members and is directly accountable to Parliament.

Changes will be part of a modernisation of the fitness to Practise process and in particular ensuring separation of the investigative powers of the GMC from the adjudicative role.
