Guidance published on employees' religion or beliefs in the workplace

In a number of recent decisions, the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) decided employers must balance employees' freedom to express their religion in the workplace against the rights and interests of others when deciding whether to stop employees expressing their religion at work.

Following these judgments the UK's EHRC has published free guidance: Religion or belief in the workplace: A guide for employers following recent European Court of Human Rights judgments. The guidance will help employers understand their obligations following the ECHR rulings in relation to, for example, dress code, holiday and other policies, and the rights of employees and job candidates as well as the rights of customers.

It has also published an explanation of the ECHR judgments called Religion or belief in the workplace: An explanation of recent European Court of Human Rights judgments.
