HPC to regulate non-medical public health specialists
Currently both the General Medical Council and the General Dental Council statutorily regulates public health specialists with medical or dental qualifications. The UK Public Health Register maintains a voluntary register of other public health specialists. This announcement means that all non-medical public health specialists and who hold senior public health posts, such as consultant and director of public health will fall under statutory regulation much like their counterparts.
HPC will work with the Department of Health, the UK Public Health Register, Faculty of Public Health and other stakeholders to enable the introduction of legislation to extend statutory regulation to this important group of professionals.
