Stamp Duty (Updated for Stamp Duty holiday announced July 2020)

What's stamp duty?

Stamp Duty Land Tax (SDLT) is a tax added on all land transactions in England, Wales and Northern Ireland.

Property buyers must pay Stamp Duty Land Tax if they buy a property or land over £500,000.

The Government has announced a temporary holiday on stamp duty on the first £500,000 of all property purchases in England and Northern Ireland. This will run until the 31st of March 2021.

This is for both first time buyers and those moving home.

For example, if the property is worth £350,000.00 the buyer will pay £0.
If the property value is £650,000 the buyer will pay 5% (£7,500) on £150,000
