Wills Team Manager

As part of our programme of expansion, an excellent opportunity has become available for an experienced Will Writer to join and manage our highly regarded Will Writing team based in Chesterfield. The Will Writing team forms part of the Private Client department.

 

Fulltime Hours – Permanent Contract

Commencement date is immediate start (Dependant on Notice period).  Hours of business are Monday to Friday 9.00 am to 5.00 pm. 

The Role

The successful candidate will be expected to manage a small team offering technical support to junior members inclusive of auditing and Will signoffs.  You will have 5+ years’ experience specialising in a caseload of Wills and LPAs.  You will have strong organisation and IT skills, attention to detail and drafting skills and will possess the ability to work under pressure to meet tight deadlines.   You will also have well-developed client care skills, are personable and confident and should enjoy working in a team environment with the ability to quickly build rapport with colleagues and are able to work effectively with minimum supervision. 

The role would suit someone who is skilled at building lasting working relationships with clients, willing to play an active role in the team’s business development activities and will have a demonstrable drive to contribute to the Private Client Department’s ongoing success.   You must be able to keep meticulous records and accounts, be highly organised, accurate, proactive and remain calm under pressure.  You will be expected to assist and liaise with third parties in the development of the Wills Team case management system.  You will also be positively challenged and will be supported in the management of the team and the development of your role as a valued member of the Company.  The reputation of the firm is excellent, and the successful candidate will join an established team where you will also be expected to work from our other offices to provide cover. 

Applications received from candidates who have achieved formal qualifications whilst having previous experience of working with a broad range of Private Client matters specialising in Wills and LPAs will be at a distinct advantage.   

 

This ‘hands on’ role will deal with a range of duties including:

  • Drafting of Wills.
  • LPAs
  • Managing a small team whilst offering technical support and training.
  • Managing Will precedents
  • Assisting with the development of the Will case management system and liaising with third parties to improve working efficiencies and client services.
  • Diary management and teamwork allocation planning
  • Team Performance management
  • Auditing draft Wills and Signoff.   
  • Meeting and advising clients in relation to Wills.
  • Making clients aware of other business areas including referrals to Banner Jones Wealth Management.
  • Managing the Wills and Probate Database and improving on case management workflow and precedent documentation.
  • Business development activities.
  • Any other reasonable tasks.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Competence and experience in handling Private Client law matters specialising in Wills and LPAs.
  • Maintain efficient systems to diarise and ensure all deadlines are met
  • Performance manage and offer technical support to junior members of the team
  • Demonstrate excellent client care, apply technical knowledge and communicate complex legal matters into a commercially astute and understandable format
  • Meet with clients and provide expert legal advice in the legal area.  
  • Ensure legal knowledge is kept up-to-date and commit to continual self-development
  • Run legal matters in an organised and efficient manner ensuring client document, advice history and time recording/billing processes are undertaken and recorded in accordance with firm procedures.
  • Actively involved in business development and networking initiatives inclusive of department/Banner Jones Wealth Management cross-referrals to promote company business and revenue.

 

Person & Skill Specification:

  • 5+ years demonstrable experience of managing a caseload of Wills and LPAs within a Private Client Department.   
  • Dealing with a broad range of Private Client matters including Wills and LPAs will be a distinct advantage.   
  • The ability to build and manage a caseload, work under pressure to tight deadlines and be very self-motivated with minimum supervision.
  • Credible past and consistent billing/financial performance
  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent written/drafting and verbal communication skills
  • Calm under pressure.
  • Ability to manage and supervise a small team and support staff
  • Performance management to improve working efficiencies inclusive of auditing and signing off draft documentation produced by team members.   
  • Good IT knowledge including Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Ability to prioritise and meet deadlines
  • Accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Full driving licence/own transport is essential as there may be an element of travelling to various locations to attend clients, professionals and company offices.
