Banner Jones advises local business on purchase of historic property

A Derbyshire salon is set for further growth after moving into larger premises in a listed building in the heart of Bolsover.
Blossom & Co, formerly known as Blossom Lounge, relocated to 40 Market Place over the summer following a full renovation, giving the business a permanent home with increased visibility and space to expand its team.
The move marks the latest chapter for the salon, which was established by owner Jessica Griffiths almost nine years ago. What began as a small salon in Clowne, with Jessica working by herself, has since grown into a thriving business with an established client base.
Banner Jones Commercial Property Solicitor Amarie Colphon advised Jessica throughout the purchase of the new premises. Given the property’s listed status, this included guidance on consulting the Local Planning Authority about restrictions and obtaining any necessary consents before work began.
Owning the salon’s premises had long been an ambition for Jessica, who wanted to create a permanent base for Blossom Lounge.
The move has also brought the business into the centre of Bolsover, a town known for its historic character and attractive period buildings, while giving the salon greater footfall and the opportunity to attract new clients.
Jessica said: “Owning a salon rather than renting has always been the long-term goal, so when 40 Market Place came onto the market again, it just felt right.
There was a lot of hard work involved in creating our dream salon, but we’re so pleased with the space we have now. Hopefully it adds something to all the other lovely businesses in Bolsover too.
Our new location has much more footfall and we’re definitely more visible. It gives us a permanent home where we can build the business and, with all the new houses being built in and around Bolsover, hopefully introduce Blossom & Co to lots of new clients too.”
While Jessica wants to retain the smaller team and personal experience that have become part of Blossom & Co’s identity, the additional space has created opportunities for the salon to grow – with two new stylists expected to join the team in the coming months.
Amarie Colphon, a Commercial Property Solicitor at Banner Jones, who advises on a broad range of commercial property matters, including sales and purchases, leases and licences, property financing, auction sales and purchases, and development projects, added: “It was a pleasure to support Jessica with the purchase of Blossom & Co’s new home and to play a part in this next stage of the business’s growth.
Buying your own premises is a significant milestone, particularly when you’ve spent years building a business from the ground up. Jessica now has the security of a permanent home for Blossom & Co, as well as the space to continue developing the business.”
Jessica added: “Buying a property can be stressful and there can be a lot that is difficult to understand, but Banner Jones was there throughout the process to help and advise.
Amarie was so thorough and patient. Whenever I was in doubt, I only had to call and he was there to guide me in the right direction.
I would highly recommend Banner Jones to anyone looking to buy or sell.”
